The Nappy Run!

October is a very special month, as it is Children’s Month! For all of us working in the disability field, children especially, are of great concern and great importance. On behalf of all the children with disabilities in South Africa, The National Council for Persons with Physical Disabilities is launching this very exciting project especially for children – The Nappy Run.

Our project is officially being launched in Gauteng on 13 November, but we want to use this month and the days running up to the date to raise as much awareness as possible. The project will be implemented in the form of a fun run. Every person participating in the event, will have to enter by “paying an entrance fee” of a packet of nappies. Those not running, can walk, bring along friends, family and colleagues and just share in the fun. The whole focus is to have fun, while at the same time addressing a very important need of children with disabilities – Nappies!

We have the Round Table Southern Africa on board as a Service Partner. They will be involved in the project in all logistical aspects (the storage and transportation of nappies) and will also provide prizes for the fun run. Gauteng Round Table is taking the lead with the project and has already started raising public awareness and getting nappies donated!

We have invited the SABC to join us in a Media Partnership and we are waiting for their response. We are also in the process of arranging radio interviews and press coverage. An official media launch will take place on 2 November at 11h00 at the offices of the National Council for Persons with Physical Disabilities in SA.

We believe that this project can be a huge success and with the assistance of our partners, can become an annual Children’s Month event.
